FreeCell is one of the most popular solitaire card games because nearly every game is winnable with the right strategy. Unlike Klondike solitaire, all cards are dealt face-up from the start, making it a game of pure skill.

Understand the Goal
The goal of FreeCell is to move all 52 cards to the four foundation piles in the top right. Each foundation must be built by suit (hearts, diamonds, clubs, spades) in ascending order from Ace to King.
Learn the Layout
FreeCell has three areas: 8 tableau columns (the main playing area with all 52 cards dealt face-up), 4 free cells (top left, for temporary single-card storage), and 4 foundation piles (top right, where you build completed suits).
Move Cards Between Columns
In the tableau, build columns in descending order with alternating colors. For example, place a red 6 on a black 7, or a black Queen on a red King. You can move single cards or sequences if you have enough free cells.
Use Free Cells Strategically
The 4 free cells can each hold one card temporarily. Use them to access buried cards, but try to keep them empty when possible. More empty free cells means you can move larger card sequences at once.
Build the Foundations
Move Aces to the foundation piles first, then continue building each suit in order: A, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, 8, 9, 10, J, Q, K. Cards played to foundations cannot be moved back.
Use Hints When Stuck
If you're stuck, click the Hint button or press H for a suggested move. The hint system will highlight the best card to move. You can also use the Auto-Solve feature to let the solver complete winnable games.
Quick Tips for Beginners
- Expose Aces and 2s early to start building foundations
- Keep free cells empty as long as possible
- Try to create at least one empty column
- Think several moves ahead before acting
- Use the unlimited undo feature freely to experiment
